As per Stats NZ, about two-thirds of the country’s regions recorded a decline in their total greenhouse gas emissions, while 1/3rd of regions saw rises between 2007 and 2018. The reduction in some regions was offset by increased emissions in other regions.
Overall, this resulted in a reduction of just over one per cent in New Zealand’s total greenhouse gas emissions between 2007 and 2018.
Between 2007 and 2018:
- The largest falls in emissions were in Auckland, down 955-kilo tonnes;
- The largest increase was in Canterbury, up 1,175-kilo tonnes.
