Founded in 1690, when John Freame and Thomas Gould started trading as goldsmith bankers in London, Barclays Plc is a British universal bank that offers products and services such as personal, corporate and investment banking, wealth management and credit card across UK and US through its subsidies. It is considered a systemically important bank by the financial stability board. In 1896, Goslings Bank, Gurney’s bank and Backhouse’s bank merged to make Barclays and Co. The bank helps individuals and small businesses through its retail banking services and large businesses and organizations through its corporate and investment banking services. The bank operates across UK, Europe, Ameicas and Asia. The bank has primary listing on the London Stock Exchange as LON: BARC and is a constituent of the FTSE 100 Index. It has a secondary listing on the New York Stock Exchange as NYSE: BCS.

The bank mainly operates through two divisions that include Barclays UK and Barclays International supported by its service company, Barclays Executive Services. The UK business banking serves corporate from high growth start-ups to small and medium businesses with specialist advice for their business needs. The UK Personal Banking provides retail services to help customers with their day-to-day needs. The Barclaycard consumer UK offers credit cards and borrowing and payment solutions.

The Barclays International division consists of its Corporate and investment Bank and Consumer, Card and Payments businesses that are carried on by Barclays Bank Plc and its subsidiaries. It offers balance, resilience and existing growth opportunities to global markets and invests in technology and people to deliver sustainable returns. The division offers its clients a range of products and services spanning from consumer and wholesale banking. The bank’s Barclays Execution Services offers operations, technology, and functional services to businesses across the bank.
