CAN WOMEN SOLIDARITY CREATE THE CHANGES REQUIRED IN AUSTRALIA'S PARLIAMENT?

It seems australia has found it’s “me too” campaign and it surround the treatment of women in the australian parliament. In 2018 american women, actresses came together to speak publicly about the sexual harassment they had faced in the entertainment industry at the risk of losing their jobs and reputations. Since then, the late jeffrey epstein and currently incarcerated ghislain maxwell have been accused for the exploitation and grooming of young women for the sexual pleasures of powerful men. Now in 2021, the “me too” movement is making a resurgence in australia, with many women speaking up about allegations of rape and sexual harassment in the workplace.

Parliament is based on a system of hierarchy and is in the aim to offer order can ben seen to be stifling it’s dichotomy of binary logic with strict gendered roles often being adhered to.
