  • AstraZeneca orders four more microbiological scanners from Clever Culture Systems.
  • The $3M order includes seven years of support and maintenance.
  • APAS system integration expands across AstraZeneca’s global operations.

In a significant development for the Australian company Clever Culture Systems (CC5), AstraZeneca has placed an order for four more of its APAS microbiological scanning systems, valued at $3 million. This addition to their existing order expands the use of the APAS technology within the global operations of the pharmaceutical giant, particularly in the area of environmental monitoring for drug manufacturing.

The APAS system, which was first introduced to the market in March of this year, is designed to automate the process of imaging and analyzing microbiological cultures on plates used in laboratory settings. This innovation streamlines laboratory processes, improving efficiency and accuracy in monitoring microbial activity.

This new order adds to the $7 million worth of APAS units that Clever Culture has shipped to AstraZeneca to date. The decision to purchase additional units comes after AstraZeneca saw the value of the system, including its capability to handle 55mm plates, which were particularly important for the company's operations. This flexibility was one of the key factors behind the increased commitment from AstraZeneca to integrate more APAS systems into its routine drug manufacturing process across multiple global sites.

Clever Culture's relationship with AstraZeneca continues to grow stronger, with the company now expected to finalize its internal validation of the APAS system for environmental monitoring. As part of the agreement, the $3 million payment for the four new machines will cover a seven-year period and include annual maintenance and support services.

While Clever Culture's stock remains priced at 1.7 cents per share, the company’s progress in expanding its partnership with a major player in the pharmaceutical industry signals a promising future for the company’s innovative technology. The CEO of Clever Culture, Brent Barnes, noted that the addition of contact plates to the APAS system played a critical role in AstraZeneca's decision to place the order, offering extended functionality for environmental monitoring.

This latest order highlights the increasing importance of automation and efficiency in the pharmaceutical industry. Clever Culture Systems continues to prove its ability to deliver cutting-edge technology for microbiological analysis, and its growing relationship with AstraZeneca positions the company as a key player in laboratory automation solutions.
