BHP, CSL, FMG, TLS: How are these stocks performing on ASX today?

  • The shares of BHP Group, Fortescue Metals Group Limited, and Telstra Corporation Limited traded in the red during today's intraday trading session.
  • At one point, the healthcare sector was the top performer today.

Thursday didn't turn out to be a good day for the Australian share market as the benchmark index ASX200 traded 1.722% lower at 7059.000 points at 11:05 AM AEST. Ten of 11 sectors were trading lower today at 11.05 AEST. At one point, the Health Care sector was the top performer as the S&P/ASX 200 Health Care Index (ASX:XHJ) was up 0.213% at 40770.900 points. 

Meanwhile, the miners had a bad day today as the S&P/ASX 200 Materials Index (ASX:XMJ) was 2.276% lower at 16811.200 points at 11:24 AM AEST. 

In this article we will talk about four ASX-listed blue-chip stocks that remained on investors’ radar today. These four stocks include BHP Group Limited (ASX:BHP), CSL Ltd. (ASX:CSL), Fortescue Metals Group Limited (ASX:FMG), Telstra Corporation Limited (ASX:TLS).

BHP Group Limited (ASX:BHP)

The shares of ASX-listed Copper and iron ore miner BHP Group Limited dropped 1.637% to AU$46.240 at 11:45 AM AEST. BHP Group Limited is the world's top resources company with a market capitalisation of AU$237.97 billion. 

Earlier this month, BHP completed the sale of its 80% interest in BHP Mitsui Coal (BMC) to Stanmore SMC Holdings Pty Ltd. Stanmore SMC Holdings Pty Ltd is a wholly-owned entity of Stanmore Resources Limited. The transaction involves a total cash consideration of up to US$1.35 billion, plus the final completion adjustment amount.

In the last one year, BHP shares have risen 9.11%, while the stock is down 5.23% year-to-date (YTD).

Fortescue Metals Group Limited (ASX:FMG)

Shares of one of the world's leading iron ore producing companies Fortescue Metals Group Limited, traded 2.072% lower AU$19.370 per share on ASX at 12:10 PM AEST. Fortescue Metals' share price rallied yesterday after the group announced the appointment of Dr Andrew Forrest AO as its Executive Chairman.

Forrest and his wife Nicola Forrest started Fortescue in 2003, intending to build it into the world's most efficient iron ore company. The company is willing to turn Fortescue green by 2030.

In the last one year, the share price of Fortescue Metals Group has fallen 15.02%, while the stock is down 2.72% YTD. 

The company has a market capitalisation of AU$60.90B. 


The shares of ASX-listed Australian biotech company CSL Ltd. was up 0.660% at AU$274.895 on ASX at 12:30 PM AEST today. CSL shares have risen 0.15% in the last one year, while the stock is down 7.14% YTD. The company has a market capitalisation of AU$131.54 billion. 

With the use of the latest technologies, CSL has emerged as an important player in biotechnology. The company offers the broadest range of quality plasma-derived and recombinant therapies and delivers life-saving medicines for patients with rare diseases and other unmet medical needs. The biotechnology firm also focuses on rare and serious illnesses and influenza vaccines.

Recently, in an update on Vifor Pharma Acquisition, the company had said that it now expects the regulatory approval process to take a few more months. The acquisition will likely help CSL expand its presence in the rapidly growing nephrology market. 


Telstra Corporation Limited (ASX:TLS)

The shares of ASX-listed telco giant Telstra Corporation Limited traded 1.133% lower at AU$3.925 per piece on ASX at 12:48 PM AEST. The telecommunication services provider has a market capitalisation of AU$46.06 billion. In the last 12 months, Telstra shares have risen 15.44%, while the stock has fallen 6.99% YTD.
