STV Group has announced the appointment of Rufus Radcliffe as its new chief executive officer, effective November 1. Radcliffe will join the board, succeeding Simon Pitts, who will step down on October 31.

Radcliffe comes to STV (LSE:STVG) from ITV, where he recently served as managing director of streaming, interactive, and data until April. During his 13 years at ITV, he played a key role in the company's digital transformation, notably leading the development and launch of the ITVX streaming service in December 2022. He also managed ITV's interactive business and contributed significantly to the group's data strategy.

Before his role in streaming, Radcliffe was ITV's chief marketing officer, overseeing direct-to-consumer operations and leading the marketing launch of BritBox. His tenure at ITV also included a position as group marketing and research director.

Paul Reynolds, chair of STV, expressed enthusiasm about Radcliffe’s arrival: "The board is thrilled to welcome Rufus to lead STV following a competitive selection process involving top talent from the UK media industry. We are embarking on the next phase of STV's growth as a digital-first, content-led business, and Rufus brings a unique combination of strategic and operational expertise from his previous industry roles."

Radcliffe’s career also includes nine years at Channel 4, where he rose to the position of controller of marketing and contributed to the launch of E4 and the network's first streaming service, 4OD.

Radcliffe commented on his new role: "STV is a strong brand with an impressive track record of producing high-quality content and maintaining strong relationships with viewers and advertisers. I am excited to join the team and look forward to building on the success and growth of the past few years."

At 0810 BST, STV Group shares had risen by 3.88% to 268p.
