The company was incorporated in 1846, and is one of the world's oldest communications businesses in the world, tracing its origins back to the Electric Telegraph Company. The British company was also one of the first groups to build a countrywide communications network. The shares of the company are listed both on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) and on the London Stock Exchange where they were first admitted on 03 December 1984. At the LSE the shares trade on the Premium Main Market segment of the exchange and are identified and traded under the ticker name BT.A. The Shares of BT Group Plc are also components of the FTSE 100 index.
