The modern food-on the –go brand does not use potentially harmful ingredients such as artificial colours, flavours, added trans fats or monosodium glutamate (MSG) in its food. The company started by John Gregg about seventy-five years ago to deliver fresh eggs and yeast to customers at Newcastle. After ten years, Gregg opened his own shop called Greggs of Gosforth, which manufactured, baked, and sold fresh bread and other tasty treats. Starting from this shop that operates today as well at Gosforth High Street, the company has more than 1,700 Greggs in the UK. Greggs Foundation is well-known for its various charity activities, including free food for the elderly started in the sixties, raising money for cancer research, healthy breakfast for over 6,000 primary school children.
