NZD 62 million Investment to Reform Family Court

The government has investment NZD 62 million to begin reform of the Family court. The money was invested from the COVID-19 Response and Recovery Fund to assist family courts in responding effectively to the backlog created by the ongoing crisis.

Justice Minister Andrew Little introduced family court legislation bill, and it is a part of NZD 62 million package designed to:

  • Re-install the right to a legal presentation at the beginning of a case in family court.
  • Eligible parties to be allowed to enter proceedings.
  • Produce better information resources and establish family justice liaison officers.
  • Increase payment for lawyers.
