Sexual consent advocate Chanel Contos will team up with former prime minister Julia Gillard to establish and lead a new youth advisory committee.
Ms Contos, whose landmark 2021 petition started a national conversation about sexual consent and education, will join the Global Institute for Women's Leadership with a focus on challenges and opportunities for young people.
The institute is jointly based at the Australian National University and King's College London and was founded and is chaired by Ms Gillard.
It aims to advance research and advocacy for gender equality and women's leadership across society.
The youth advisory committee will be made up of 30 members based in Australia and the United Kingdom and the search is under way for applicants.
Ms Contos founded the Teach Us Consent campaign, which advocates for mandatory consent education in schools, and the 25-year-old has been recognised with domestic and international awards.
"There is so much disconnect between the experiences of young women and policies that are made that will dictate their lives," she said.
"I am hoping to help bridge that gap."
Ms Gillard said Ms Contos's expertise would be invaluable to the committee as it supports and champions the next generation of female leaders.
"Chanel bravely came forward to start a major conversation about consent and respect among young people, as well as make meaningful change in one of the most challenging issues we face today," Ms Gillard said.
"She has shown herself to be an outstanding and inspiring leader already."
