Rio Tinto Plc (RIO) is a leading mining and metal company listed on the London Stock Exchange. The company earlier discovered precious metals at the project Winu in the basin of Yeneena which is in province of Paterson in the western region of Australia. The company recently released an update on the forty-two drill holes which are supposed to have copper, gold and silver mineralisation beneath with a currently defined strike length of approximately 2100 metres. The results are encouraging but it would take time to make an assessment and understanding regarding the estimation of mineral deposits.

The company’s underlying EBITDA was up by 11 per cent to $10.3 billion in H1 FY19 as against $9.2 billion in H1 FY18. The company’s underlying earnings were up by 12 per cent to $4.9 billion in H1 FY19 as against $4.4 billion in H1 FY18. The company’s net earnings were down by 6 per cent to $4.1 billion in H1 FY19 as against $4.4 billion in H1 FY18. In addition, the company announced share buy-backs and dividends of $3.5 billion in H1FY19 as against $3.2 billion in H1FY18. The company’s net debt (pro-forma) reduced by 40 per cent to $5.6 billion in H1 FY19 as against $9.3 billion in H1FY18.

The company’s EPS (statutory) plunged by 9 per cent to 4.8 pence per share in H1 FY19 as against 5.3 pence per share in H1 FY18.

The company has achieved success in both the segments (pubs & beer brewing) during the period. The franchised pub’s revenue on LFL (Like for Like) basis surged by 0.5 per cent. The operating margin was in line with the management expectation. The beer segment continues to deliver good performance.
