Description
Incorporated in 1990, TR European Growth plc is a UK-based closed-ended investment trust, that seeks to invest in the small and medium sized companies that are traded, domiciled, listed, or are operating in Europe (Except UK) with the motive of capital growth. The trust invests in more than 120 companies mainly located in Western Europe with an average market capitalization of around £1bn and rarely above £3bn, it aims to deliver higher capital return than its benchmark, EMIX Smaller European Companies Ex UK Index. The trust is classified within the European Smaller Companies sector by the Association of Investment Companies (AIC) according to its regional or industry focus and its investment objectives. The trust invest in a wide range of sectors such as Industrial Goods, Business Providers, Financials, Technology, Consumer Goods, Retail providers, Basic Material and Natural Resources across Europe (Except UK). The trust’s shares are listed on the main market of the London Stock Exchange as LSE: TRG.
The Trust aims to maintain a diversified and low risk portfolio of securities that can provide cost effective and capital growth investment opportunities to its investors by investing in small and medium size companies across a range of sectors operating in Europe. The trust’s Board of Directors has appointed “Janus Henderson” as the investment manager of the trust that is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the trust and its activities are overseen by the Board of Directors. The board determines the trust’s overall risk exposure and sets the investment policies accordingly. It may use leverage to increase returns for investors and operates as an approved investment trust meaning no capital gain tax is paid on the realization of investment to enhance return.
The trust invests 80%-100% in Equities or may keep 0%-20% as Fixed Income and Cash and it may invest in shares, securities, related financial instruments and derivatives. It cannot invest more than 7% of its total assets in anyone holding at the time of investment. Further, it can’t normally invest more than 15% of its gross assets in investment companies and it cannot invest more than 10% of its gross assets in companies that itself may invest more than 15% of their gross assets in UK listed investment companies. At the time of investment, the net gearing can be used maximum of 30% of the net asset value and on the first £500m of net assets management fee is 0.60% pa and 0.50% pa thereafter.
