The Socceroos are staying in dormitories. The French are in a luxury hotel modelled on an Arabian palace.
And Australia's coach Graham Arnold believes that may just work in his favour when the nations clash in their World Cup opener in Doha, Qatar.
"A lot of countries are staying in hotels with their fans," Arnold told reporters.
"Those type of things can be distractions for the players - and the travelling on buses to training and those type of things.
"We don't have any of that.
"We have got great facilities, great training pitches, and we can just walk on the pitch and do whatever we want, whenever we want."
The Socceroos' base is the Aspire Academy in Doha, a world-renowned centre of sporting excellence.
The academy's chief sports officer is Australian legend Tim Cahill.
And while the accommodation is dormitory-styled, players gush about their facilities.
The Socceroos haven't had to step outside the academy.
"Off the field, perfect," Arnold said of Australia's lead-in to their cup opener on Tuesday night (Wednesday 0600 AEDT).
"Great facility. Zero distractions.
"Our pre-planning, what we did for the three months leading into this to make sure everything was going to be right, has worked extremely well."
The French squad are at the luxurious Al-Messila hotel where a room costs about $A2600 a night.
Literally palatial, the hotel boasts 30 private pool villas.
"It's a completely different environment to where they're coming from," Arnold said of the mainly European-based French.
"If they're coming from the English Premier League or wherever they are coming from, the conditions are cold - and you're coming into the heat.
"It's about getting the training times right and getting the days right because sometimes you're just sitting around all day and waiting for training night.
"You're sitting on the lounge watching tv and it takes the energy away.
"We are doing activities during the mornings that make the players laugh and have fun and enjoy each other's company socially."
