North America Segment

The firm is focused on developing mineral properties in Colorado and Nevada, including Carlin, Phoenix, Long Canyon, Twin Creek, Cripple Creek and Victor.

South America Segment

The segment is engaged in the operations of four gold producing mines in Peru and Suriname, including Yanacocha and Merian mines.

Australia Segment

The Australian mineral properties include Kalgoorlie, Tanami, and Boddington mines. In addition, the company wholly owns the Tanami mines in Australia’s remote Tanami desert.

Africa Segment

The company operates two surface mines in Ghana, namely Ahafo and Akyem mines. The commercial production at the Ahafo commenced in 2006, while the first production at the Akyem mines commenced in 2013.

Founder William Boyce Thompson set up the gold-focused mining company in 1916.

The Colorado-based company was initially founded as a holding firm to invest in mining, minerals, oil, and natural gas properties across the globe. However, after four years, the company was reincorporated as Newmont Corporation and went public.

It debuted on the New York Stock Exchange in 1940 and trades under the 'NEM' stock symbol. The gold mining firm is also listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange under the quote of ‘NGT’.

The company claims to be the only gold mining firm to be included in the S&P 500 index.

In addition, it claims to be among the Global 2000 ranking released by Forbes for 2021.

It was reportedly among America's Best Midsize Employers and 100 Best Corporate Citizens list in 2021.
