Headquartered in Farnborough, UK, QinetiQ is a publically listed science and engineering company engaged in the defence, security and critical infrastructure markets. Before 2001, QinetiQ was part of the Defence Evaluation and Research Agency (DERA), which got split into two segments: Defence Science & Technology Laboratory and QinetiQ. The latter consisted most of the non-nuclear testing and evaluation centres, which got privatised in 2002. 

QinetiQ provides product and services to nine main sectors: aviation & aerospace, defence, energy & utilities, financial services, government, law enforcement, marine, space and telecoms. QinetiQ develops integrated solutions with innovative technology for future challenges and assess its capabilities to know if it will work in the critical situations and ensure that the customers are trained to use it. To develop the integrated defence solutions it is crucial to know the current, emerging and the future threats and actively understand the requirements of the customers to provide them mission-led solutions for success.  Currently, QinetiQ is operating in the US, UK and Australia and targeting Canada, Germany, and Belgium for future growth.

QinetiQ operates two core divisions: EMEA Services and Global Products. EMEA Services provides expertise and unique facilities to generate valuable capabilities through innovative technology, continuous research, and training, which is supported by long-term contracts that can provide high revenue and cash flow.

EMEA Services comprises of air & space, maritime & land, cyber & information, and international. The Global Product segment delivers innovative solutions and products to satisfy customers, manages contact funded R&D and develops internal funded intellectual property with future potential to generate cash in partnership. Global product segment comprises of OptaSense, Space Products and EMEA products. EMEA Services segment contributes 74% of the total revenue, while in Global product generated 26% of revenue.
