Founded in 1975 as Hillisdown Holdings by Harry Solomon and David Thompson, Premier Foods plc is a UK-based food company engaged in production and distribution of a range of branded and owned label food and beverage products. The company employs more than 4,000 people across its 15 manufacturing facilities and offices. About 96% of the products are manufactured in the UK. It has expanded and further working to expand internationally, organically and through strategic acquisition of multiple potential businesses, currently its international business contributes 6.5% of total revenue. The company’s shares are listed on the London Stock Exchange as LON: PFD and is also a constituent of the FTSE 250 Index.
The company’s grocery business offers a range of leading brands with high household penetration through the portfolio of brands in four key categories; its Flavorings & Seasonings brands include Bisto, OXO and Paxo; Quick Meals, Snacks & Soups brands include Batchelors, Smash and Nissin; Ambient Desserts brand include Ambrosia, Bird’s, Mr Kipling, Cadbury and Angel Delight; Cooking Sauces & Accompaniments brands include Sharwood’s, Loyd Grossman and Homepride and its Ambient Cakes brands include Mr Kipling, Lyons and Cadbury. The Ambient food segment is the largest sector within the total grocery business. In addition, the company also has a portfolio of other branded food products and non-branded food business, which are engaged in manufacturing of cakes and desserts on behalf of various food retailers in the UK. Its Knighton business is engaged in production and sale of branded beverages and dessert products.
The company’s customer base includes supermarkets, hypermarkets, convenience stores, discounters, online, wholesale and food services across the UK. In 2016, the company signed a cooperation agreement with Nissin Foods Holdings Co., Ltd, with a motive to use its noodle technology and expertise to manufacture Batchelors Super Noodles in a new pot format. Further, the company is working with Nissin to grow outside the UK by using its global network. In 2017, the company entered a strategic partnership with Mondelez International to carry on its licence to manufacture and sell Cadbury branded cake and ambient dessert products until 2022. The partnership will cover 46 countries such as India, South Africa, Japan, Canada, and China.
