Incorporated in 1919 as a manufacturer of electrical products by Meyer Hart Goldstone and James Henry Ward, Volex Plc is a leader in integrated manufacturing for performance-critical applications and a supplier of power products, serving a wide range of sectors and customers, with particular expertise in data centre power and connectivity, cable assemblies, electric vehicles, higher-level assemblies and consumer electrical. It was initially registered with Companies House under the name ‘Ward & Goldstone Ltd’. The company operates through its 17 manufacturing locations across 21 countries and its products are sold through its locally based sales team and authorised distributor partners to Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEMs) and Electronic Manufacturing Services (EMS) companies globally. The company’s shares are listed on the London Stock Exchange as LON: VLX since 1939.
The company aims to offer products and services that provide safe and sustainable power and connectivity solutions from household items to the most complex medical equipments by expanding itself organically and through strategic acquisition such as MC Electronics, GTK UK Ltd, DE-KA, Silcotec Europe, Servatron and Ta Hsing, since 2018. The company operates through its five segments that include Integrated Manufacturing Services, Power Products, Data Centre Products, Consumer Electronics and Electric Vehicles.
The company’s Integrated Manufacturing Services segment offers technically sophisticated manufacturing solutions designed to satisfy customer needs and to drive product innovation, supply chain efficiencies, cost savings and improved time-to-market. It designs and manufactures a wide range of higher-level assemblies and connectors that transfer electronic, optical data and radio-frequency. Its products are used in a variety of applications including medical equipment, factory automation, data centres, mobile computing devices, data networking equipment, vehicle telematics and wireless base stations. Its locations for integrated manufacturing services include GTK UK, Silcotec Slovakia, Servatron USA Volex Poland, Volex Suzhou, Volex De Mexico and MC Electronics.
The Power Products segment is engaged in designing and manufacturing of power cords, duck heads and other related power. Its products are used in a variety of applications including TVs, Laptops, Power tools, PCs, tablets, kitchen appliances, games consoles, printers and electric and autonomous vehicles.
The Data Centre Products segments offers services for leading-edge data centre infrastructure, these services help companies of all sizes in greater bandwidth, faster processing and increased density, designed to support the fastest speeds, the company has the proven IP and expertise that data centres may trust on. Its locations for high-speed and data centre products include Volex Batam and Volex Suzhou.
The Consumer Electronics segment is engaged in manufacturing of AC power cords through its facilities located in Vietnam, China and Indonesia. The Electric Vehicles segment is engaged in manufacturing of a wide range of electric vehicle components that can operate consistently and reliably in challenging conditions.
