In the 1950s, Howard Hughes owned and operated land that covers the Summerlin MPC. In 1973, the vast Hughes empire was formed as the Summer Corporation, and in 1994 the Summer Corporation renamed itself The Howard Hughes Corporation.
In 1996, the company merged with the Rouse Company. In 2004 General Growth properties owned and operated the Rouse Company.
In 2012, the company got approval for Ward Village from HCDA. It sold and began its construction of a 206-unit condo tower and established Howard Hughes Management Services Company for providing property management services to office tenants in the same year.
