Who were the highest-paid male CEOs in US in 2021?

A survey conducted by AP that covered 340 executives at the S&P 500 companies, unveiled that CEO salaries rose to a median of US$14.5 million in 2021. The surveyed executives have at least served two full consecutive years at their organizations.

The compensation of top executives in a company includes stock and option grants depending on a certain performance matrix.

Here, we look at the highest-paid male CEOs in the US in 2021:

Peter Kern:

Peter Kern of the Expedia Group Inc. (Nasdaq: EXPE) is ranked No. 1 in the elite list of top chief executive officers in the US. His compensation of US$296.2 million is a change of 6,592% from the previous year. He is the Vice Chairman and CEO of Expedia Group.

The US$20.62 billion Expedia Group, Inc. is an American online travel shopping company for consumer and small business travel. Kern has been a director and Vice-Chairman of the company since June 2018. He became the CEO in 2020.

David Zaslav:

David Zaslav of Warner Bros. Discovery Inc. (Nasdaq: WBD) is ranked 2nd among top CEOs in the US in terms of compensation. His salary of US$246.6 million is a change of 554% from the previous year.

Zaslav was instrumental in striking the deal between AT&T and Discovery to combine with WarnerMedia. The combined Warner Bros. Discovery was formed in April 2022.  The market cap of Warner Bros. Discovery Inc. is US$44.54 billion.

William McDermott:

William McDermott of ServiceNow Inc. (NYSE: NOW) is ranked No. 3 among top chief executives in the US. His salary of US$165.8 million is a change of 560% from last year.

Before joining ServiceNow, he was the CEO of the technology company SAP SE.

California, Santa Clara-based ServiceNow is an American software company that is into developing cloud computing platforms and has a market cap of US$ 94.53 billion.

Tim Cook:

The Apple Inc. (Nasdaq: AAPL) boss Tim Cook is ranked 4th in terms of compensation among the highest-paid chief executive officers in the US. His salary of US$98.7 million is a 569% change from the previous year.

Tim Cook has been the CEO of Apple Inc. since 2011. He previously served as the chief operating officer of the company under Steve Jobs.

California, Cupertino-based Apple Inc. is a consumer electronics, software, and online services company that has a market cap of US$2.57 trillion.

Jamie Dimon:

Jamie Dimon of JPMorgan Chase (NYSE: JPM) is ranked 5th among the top CEOs in the US. His salary of US$84.4 million is a change of 167% from last year.

Jamie Dimon has been the chairman and chief executive officer of JPMorgan Chase since 2005. Previously, he was on the board of directors of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York.

JPMorgan Chase is the largest among the big four US banks.

Bottom line:

Among women CEOs, Lisa T. Su of Advanced Micro Devices leads the chart with her salary of US$29.5 million. She is closely followed by Mary T. Barra of General Motors with a package of US$29.1 million. Nasdaq’s Adena Friedman has also made it to the list with a salary of US$20 million.
