The government has announced a multi-million-dollar recovery fund for sport and recreation sector as part of COVID-19 response funded at Budget 2020.
The sports sector employs over 53,000 people and contributes about NZD 5 billion a year to New Zealand’s GDP, said Grant Robertson.
The fund will be invested in three areas, over the next four years:
- NZD 83 million in short-term to come out of the initial impact of the pandemic.
- NZD 104 million to rebuild the sector in the medium term.
- NZD 78 million to modernise the sector through innovative approaches.
