Australian prodigy Valentino Guseli has clinched silver in the halfpipe at the world snowboarding championships in Bakuriani, pipped by another teenager for gold.

The 17-year-old was beaten for top spot by 16-year-old Chaeun Lee by just 0.50 points.

Guseli scored 93.00 on his final run only for Lee to best him with a 93.50, with the South Korean becoming the youngest ever men's snowboard world champion.

Swiss Jan Scherrer, who won Olympic bronze last year, collected the same on Friday.

Three-time world champion and Beijing silver medallist, Australian Scotty James finished fifth with his best score an 86.50.

Guseli skipped the slopestyle and big air events due to injury and fell on his first entry in the best of three run final.

In the final run, he added a cab-triple-1440.

"I am pretty stoked, considering that a week ago I was crawling around my apartment not sure if I was going to be able to do anything here so I am really happy," Guseli said.

"The cab-triple-1440 was a trick I learnt in November, and I have been struggling a little bit with it all year.

"I perfected it a week before coming here training in Laax, Switzerland, landing five in a row and felt really comfortable with them."

"I grew up watching Scotty James, and now to be almost at a level where kids look up to me the same is pretty amazing."

Guseli's medal was the fifth won by Australia at the Georgian resort, following 20-year-old Josie Baff's silver in the snowboard cross.

Aerial skier Danielle Scott claimed silver while Matt Graham also finished second in the individual moguls and bronze in the dual moguls.

Beijing Olympic bronze medallist Tess Coady finished just off the podium, placing fourth in the snowboard slopestyle.

It capped a cracking year for Guseli, who grew up on the NSW far south coast.

He created history, becoming the first rider to podium in all three park and pipe disciplines - big air, slopestyle and halfpipe - in one season.

Three other snowboarders have managed the feat but never in the one season.

The final event at the world championships is scheduled to take place on Sunday, with Coady in action in the big air final.
