Founded in 1937 by two brothers Frank and Irving Sinclair, Mountview Estates Plc is a property trading business that is engaged in owning and acquiring tenanted residential properties across the UK and sells these properties when it becomes vacant. The group’s wholly owned subsidiaries include Hurstway Investment Company Limited, which is a property trading business, Louise Goodwin Limited and A.L.G. Properties Limited are the property investment businesses. The shares of Mountview Estate Plc are traded on the London stock exchange as LON: MTVW.

The group’s strategy is simple, that is to purchase the tenanted residential and investment properties at low cost as compared to notional vacant possession value and it sells them when the properties become vacant. The group purchase residential properties of the different categories that include regulated tenancy units, life tenancy units, freehold and leasehold ground rent units and assured tenancy units and its rental income is generated from five sources that are regulated tenancies, assured tenancies, Assured shorthold tenancies, life tenancies and ground rents. The portfolios of properties are managed by the group’s in-house property management team.   

The regulated tenancies and the life tenancies generates nominal rental income, but they are purchased at a low cost and have higher margin on sales and the maintenance of these assets is the responsibility of the life tenants. In 1999, the group also acquired two investment businesses that are Louise Goodwin Limited having over 31 unites and A.L.G. Properties limited having over four units, all its properties are in Belsize Park, London. The group’s properties are primarily located in North London and South London and in Bedfordshire, Berkshire, Northamptonshire, Buckinghamshire, Cambridge shire, Essex, Heartfordshire, Middlesex, Oxfordshire, Norfolk, Suffolk, Dorset, Sussex, Hampshire, Surrey, Isle of Wight, Kent, Midlands, Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire, Leicestershire and remainder of England and Wales.
