Customers could opt to pay through cryptocurrencies as digital payments networks offer more flexible payment options and are secured by the blockchain.

Chipotle is not the first restaurant to explore the crypto space. Earlier, restaurant chains like KFC and Taco Bell have reportedly filed for brand trademarks for non-fungible tokens (NFTs).

Meanwhile, McDonald's explores the metaverse and aims to set up a location there. It is important to note that the overall crypto market remains extremely volatile despite the rising popularity of cryptocurrencies over the past few years.

Since the past few weeks, the crypto market has been going through turbulent times, and its market capitalization had dipped to US$ 1.2 trillion from US$ 2 trillion.
