Shaw Communications Inc provides internet, video-cable, video-satellite and phone services under consumer and business division. The company also provides LTE (long term evolution) data and wireless prepaid and postpaid voice services.
The consumer division connects Northern Ontario and Manitoba through an extensive fibre network under the brand FibrePlus to Alberta, British Columbia and Saskatchewan.
The company claims it owns a licensed satellite video services under the name Shaw Direct, which provides over 370 HD video channels, on-demand and pay-per-view packages across Canada.

In August 2017, the firm sold its 100 per cent wholly-owned subsidiary ViaWest, Inc. and its subsidiaries to Peak 10 Holding Corporation.
JR Shaw founded the company, then known as Capital Television Co. It was incorporated in 1966 under the law of the Province of Alberta. In 1983, Capital Television Co became Shaw Cablesystems Ltd.
On May 12, 1993, the company rebranded itself to present name Shaw Communications Inc.
In 2019, Shaw Communications Inc sold all of its interest in Corus Entertainment Inc, a mass media and entertainment company in Toronto.
The company’s majority voting control is held by Shaw Family Living Trust (SFLT) and subsidiaries.
