The TSX Composite Index lost 0.21 per cent, 40.31 points, to 19,022.86, Friday, July 8, but still managed to close the week with a 0.86 per cent gain.
The energy sector fell around one per cent and healthcare and base metals around three per cent, each. The financial and industrial sectors stayed in the green.
Meanwhile, Statistics Canada said the unemployment rate fell 0.2 per cent in June to a new record low of 4.9 per cent.

Athabasca Oil Corporation saw 15.9 million shares traded, making it the most active stock. It was followed by Cenovus Energy Inc that saw 5.9 million shares switch hands, and Canadian Natural Resources Limited saw 5.8 million shares traded.

On Wall Street, the Dow dropped 46.4 points, 0.15 per cent, to 31,338.15 points, while the S&P 500 was down 3.24 points, 0.08 per cent, to 3,899.38 points. Nasdaq’s benchmark grew 13.96 points, 0.12 per cent, to 11,635.31.
Gold was up 0.15 per cent to US$ 1,742.30. The price of Brent oil rose 2.26 per cent and was at US$ 107.02/bbl and that of crude oil was up 2.01 per cent to US$ 104.79/bbl.
