Simplot Australia Pty Ltd has changed the country of origin labelling on 31 frozen fish products from ‘Made in Australia’ to ‘Packed in Australia’ due to concerns put forward by the ACCC.
The products made out of frozen fish were sold under the names Birds Eye, I & J, Neptune and a home brand product.
ACCC raised concerns regarding the original source of the imported frozen fish and said the products displaying ‘Made in Australia’ mark may not be actually ‘made’ in the country.
The products sold by Simplot’s brands featured fish imported from different countries like New Zealand, US and even South Africa. As per ACCC’s view, while only minor changes are being done to the products imported from these countries, Simplot cannot label them as ‘Made in Australia’.
