HIA Queensland Executive Director Mike Roberts on 30 July 2020 stated that Queensland residential building industry will continue to face a significant downturn in building activity in Q4 2020.
In opposite to a few studies with respect to Queensland building industry being relatively unhurt by the COVID-19 impact, detached house approvals issued for June declined ~ 16% for the month. Including this figure, the total drop in approval since the crisis hit in April is 25.9%.
The Federal Government’s HomeBuilder Scheme has resulted in significant interest in new home building. However, the delayed implementation of the scheme by the Queensland Government implies the high level of interest is not being converted into actual agreements signed.
