Rio Tinto Limited (ASX: RIO) curtails operations at Richards Bay Minerals as the violence in the communities surrounding the operations escalate.

  • The company reported that there had been an increase in criminal activity against employees at Richards Bay Minerals, due to which, Rio plans to halt the operations at the prospect.
  • The smelters are working at a reduced level, with a minimal number of employees working on site; and, the construction of the Zulti South project has also been temporarily paused.
