LIT shares Up as Envirostream gives a positive update on recycled battery fertiliser

Lithium Australia NL's (ASX: LIT) 90% owned subsidiary company Envirostream Australia Pty Ltd is undertaking a field trial on farming land. The company is trying to evaluate the effect of zinc and manganese extracted from the recycling of alkaline batteries when added in differing ratios as micronutrients to conventional mono-ammonium phosphate (MAP) fertiliser.

The company has presented an update on the progress of the field trial, which shows immense possibilities of use of these battery recycling by-products as fertilisers.

Field-trial progress update

The plants on the left side of the picture have received Envirostream's zinc, and manganese treatment and the plants on the right side are in the control area which received no such treatments.

The visual difference suggests that the plants which received Envirostream treatments look much healthier and demonstrate a positive response compared to those in the control area.

A look at the average selection of plants (Refer image above) from each of the five field-trial treatment areas, depicts the visual performance of the Envirostream treatments in comparison to that of the plants receiving the commercially available fertiliser treatments.

Furthermore, the visual performances are backed by the statistical analysis of plant tissue from each of the areas treated. Envirostream will complete a micronutrient analysis over the lifecycle of the crop with the grain sampling after the field trial harvest, which is scheduled for mid-December 2020.
