Despite constant and rigorous efforts of the government to monitor and control the outbreak, there has been a sharp rise in the number of positive cases.
As per the Health Department of the Australian federal government, 66,825 cases have been recorded in the last 24 hours, taking the total case tally to 1,042,293 with 612,619 active cases, as of 11 January 2022.
Total 2,416 lives have been lost till date due to the COVID infection.

The current pandemic scenario in Australia just ahead of the national polls has great potential to pose a threat to the Morrison government.
The rise in cases brings the need for higher supply and availability of medical facilities. Any dearth of healthcare elements, such as test kits, medicines, vaccines, hospital beds or critical care units, will turn the wave of sentiments of the people of the country.
To keep the interest in its favour, the present government led by Prime Minister Scott Morrison must ensure a strong response to curb the growing number of cases. The government must put in place strict COVID-19 safety protocols and measures in order to ensure the situation doesn’t aggravate.

It has become more worrisome for the government as the unwanted guest has been successful in infecting masses despite high vaccination rates. Over 94% of Australians aged 16 years and above have received at least one dose, while more than 92% of the population is fully vaccinated.
